Admission to all residential aged care homes is by approval of
the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and is obtained
via your local Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). Your general
practitioner (GP) can refer you to your local ACAT, which is
usually located at your nearest public hospital. Your ACAT member
will assess your eligibility and care needs, then provide you with
a copy of the ACAT approval, known as an ACCR Form.
To
contact your local ACAT or for information on accessing aged care,
you can phone the Aged Care Information Line on 1800 500 853.
Once you have determined your eligibility, the next steps are to
choose the
right home for you and find out about fees.
